COACHES CODE OF CONDUCT

Coaches Code of Conduct – 2020

In addition to Gymnastics Australia’s General Code of Behaviour, you must meet the following requirements in regard to your conduct during any activity held or sanctioned by Super Performance Centre, Gymnastics Queensland, Gymnastics Australia or a member association in your role as a coach held by or under the auspices of Gymnastics Australia, a member association or an affiliated club.

  1. Be reasonable in your demands on young athletes’ time, energy and enthusiasm.
  2. Remember that children participate for fun and enjoyment and that winning is only part of their motivation.
  3. Never ridicule children for making mistakes or losing.
  4. Ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and ability of the participants. Teach participants to respect all gym equipment.
  5. Use positive and appropriate language when talking to and in the presence of children and members.
  6. Do not use derogatory language based on gender, race or impairment.
  7. Develop team respect for the ability of opponents as well as for the judgement of officials and opposing coaches.
  8. Follow the advice of a physician when determining when an injured athletes is ready to recommence training.
  9. Be aware of the role of a coach as an educator. As well as imparting knowledge and skills, promote desirable personal and social behaviours.
  10. When an athlete misbehaves or breaches the code of conduct, you must notify Administration Office to make a contact with athlete’s parent or guardian and to make an appointment for a meeting if necessary.
  11. Do not send athletes to Front Desk or other coaches. Remember athletes in your class are under your full supervision ONLY.
  12. Seek to keep abreast of changes in sport, ensure that the information used is up to date, appropriate to the needs of athletes and takes account of principles of growth and development of children.
  13. You must have full and current accreditation with Gymnastics Queensland and Australia at all times, current Blue card, First Aid and CPR.
  14. You must Start and Finish they Duties/Classes on time.
  15. You must plan and book all necessary Equipment and training aids for your classes.
  16. Follow and adhere to the relevant gymsport Lesson plan if it has been provided to you by Super Performance Centre Pty Ltd. In all other cases – provide and follow your own Lesson plan (approved by Super Performance Centre Pty Ltd.)
  17. Use of personal mobile phones or mobile devices on the floor and office is Strictly Prohibited, including for music, video and/or photo recording.
  18. You must fill in an accident and injury report form and notify the administrator of any accidents/injury that have occurred during their class.
  19. At all times obey by SPC policies that include but not limited to: Member Protection Policy; Privacy Policy; Social Media Policy; Hot Weather Policy.
  20. At all times obey by SPC rules, which can be updated at any time (appendix attached).
  21. Do not interrupt other coaches/supervisors during their duty. Only allowed in case of emergency. Respect your team members.
  22. You are not allowed to seat, lean or rest on equipment during your scheduled class hours.
  23. You must wear supplied uniform at all times.
